Waiting Game 02/28/2008
Michelle's visit yesterday to the doctor did not provide much information. The baby is still turned the wrong way and will most likely stay that way as there is little room for her to turn. She has another appointment on Monday. We are just sitting and waiting. If she starts contractions or definitely if her water breaks, we will be heading to Baylor Hospital. Until then, it's life as normal (as normal as being overdue life is). Michelle is fine. She doesn't even waddle. I think she's preparing herself for accepting a C-section if that is what is best for her and the baby. That would probably be decided on Monday (03/03/08) and would probably be done very shortly afterwards. Doctor's advice and C-section 02/26/2008
It's now the day after Michelle's due date. That's very normal for first time moms. It's common to go even up to two weeks past. Michelle has an appointment scheduled for tomorrow (Wednesday). If the baby is still breeched then, they will probably come to some agreement as for a time to have a planned C-section. I would guess that to be in the next seven days. ECV, Chiropractor, & Acupuncture 02/23/2008
We had a Dr. visit last Thursday. I showed up during my lunch to surprise Michelle. Fortunately I was there as we found at the end of the visit (by a quick sonogram) that the baby was again breeched (head down). This was pretty shocking news as we though the baby had turned (as did the dr. and our birth class teacher). So an EVC was scheduled for yesterday (Friday). Before going there, someone had recommended the chiropractor, and Michelle we to one who tried some adjustments. They did not work (so far), so we then had the version performed. No matter what you read - do know this can be very very uncomfortable. The doctor and RNs physically try to spin the baby downward and put a lot of pressure on Michelle's belly. The baby can get distressed by this and I did see th heart rate go from about 140 (normal) to somewhere in the 50s. At this point, everyone was very quiet - like they were watching for it to get back up to speed. I don't know how far they were from deciding to do an emergency c-section, but I could tell atleast that it was on their minds if they didn't see what they wanted from the ultra sound. When you see your baby's heart beat that slow when you are so used to it being much faster - it's very sobering to you. 3 Weeks 02/07/2008
I have really been slacking on this site recently. I haven't uploaded any pictures in a while and I still have a bunch to get done. We had our last child birth class last Tuesday. Before the class, we went upstairs to see the nursery. We had been there twice before, but there were never any kids in it. This time there were 3 and one had just been born. We talked to the father (couldn't have been over 21). His wife was due in 3 weeks and had gone in for a regular check-up. He got a call at work and was told they were doing an 'emergency' c-section in a couple hours. Something was wrong with the placenta and they were concerned about the baby's long term well-being if they left him. So he was thinking he still had 3 week to prepare (most first time moms go full term or a little over) and the next thing he knew, the baby boy was in his arms. It was a good wakeup call for Michelle and I to be prepared for any day now. It was also comforting for Michelle to see everything they do to the baby right after they take her from the delivery room. Now she will know what they will do to Laci when she leaves her for the first time. And it's better to see it live than to read some list of procedures. |
